My work experience

I have over thirty years experience of working with people. I began in social work with children and families, work which included adoption and fostering, physical and mental disability, and mental health.

During that time I trained as a family therapist, registering with the Association of Family Therapy in 1993. Following that, I was registered with The United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy, which regulates therapists.

I have had a private practice for 17 years. During that time, I have also worked in the NHS at Southmead Hospital and the Bristol Royal Infirmary, and currently work part-time in the NHS in South Gloucestershire, all of which has been in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services. I also see clients in Adult and Children's Services at the Priory Hospital in Bristol, a private psychiatric hospital.

Values I hold in my work

It is of great importance to me that I work with people regardless of their ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion or disability.

I believe it is not helpful to judge or blame, but to work with you to help you understand how you've arrived at this point in your life, and what you would want to be different.

I think I work in a collaborative way, such that your views and feelings are seen as valuable, and taken seriously. To me, the value of therapy is in its' usefulness, and I regularly ask for feedback from my clients.
